Jeannine honored as Champion of Change

WABI CHANNEL 5 | OCTOBER 2019

The Maine Coalition to End Domestic Violence held its annual Champions of Change Awards, as reported by WABI Channel 5. "These are people who have courageously worked to make significant change toward our collective mission," said Francine Garland Stark, Executive Director of the MCEDV.

FOV Voice Jeannine Lauber Oren (far left in photo) was honored for her work in getting the definition of economic abuse added to the Maine statute in a bill protecting survivors (read the bill: LD 748).

According to the US News & World Report, "Financial abuse occurs in 98 percent of abusive relationships, whether in the form of restricting access to credit, or draining assets once a victim attempts to leave." When the abuser controls the resources, it is exceedingly difficult to leave, especially when children are involved.
